Statnet Consortium Wins Richards Award

Published on August 6, 2019 by

The 2019 William Richards software award from the International Network for Social Network Analysis has been given to the statnet Consortium, the group of volunteer software developers responsible for the statnet collection of libraries for the R statistical computing system.  NCASD lab PI Carter Butts is one of the founding developers of the group, having brought to the project prior experience with R development, programing for social network analysis applications, and the first R library for network analysis (a package called sna, which continues to be in active use).  In the roughly 17 years since the statnet Consortium was founded, the team has produced a large collection of software packages for network modeling, visualization, and analysis, all of which are freely distributed for both commerical and non-commercial use under the GNU Public License.  The team is honored to be recognized by the Williams award, and gratified to note the thousands of studies to date that have been made possible by the statnet software tools.
